About us
PaySauce has been cooking up awesome payroll since 2015. What started as a bold idea has grown into New Zealand’s best payroll solution for small businesses. With our clever platform and sharp eye for security, compliance and ease of use, we make it easy for employers to manage the human side of business - from digital timesheets and rostering, through to calculating payroll, banking the payments and filing to IRD.
We love payroll and people, and we’re revolutionising the way they are looked after: we really care about helping both employers and employees by making the tough things simple and letting them focus on the things that matter. Our goal? Effortless yet flexible. Clever solutions that are intuitive to use and make payroll a beautiful experience.
About the role
As the Product Owner, you’ll drive the ongoing development and delivery of our payroll products that make complex requirements simple, accessible and tailored for small businesses in New Zealand.
You’ll serve as both a customer advocate and a technical leader, drawing on your deep New Zealand payroll expertise to contribute to the product roadmap and translate the needs of small employers into intuitive, reliable product capabilities while managing the technical complexities of payroll processing, legislative requirements, third-party integrations and operational workflows.
Working closely with our development, design, product, customer experience and finance teams, you’ll define what needs to be done and why, make key product decisions, and ensure we’re delivering solutions that truly solve employer challenges in payroll.
About the team
Your colleagues are a mix of remote and in the office alongside you. You’ll report directly to our VP of Product Growth, based in Canada, with an Australian Product Owner in your team too.
Around you in our Petone office will be our CPO, CTO and Development Team who you will have close working relationships with, along with the customer experience, marketing & finance teams. This is primarily an office based role, with flexibility to work from home a couple of days a week.
You’ll collaborate across functions to deliver product solutions that work for our customers as well as using your payroll expertise to help contribute to wider business needs around content and documentation relating to payroll - for example, leaning into product marketing and effective customer content to help them understand how to get the most value from our solution.
About you
You’ll bring a deep, practical understanding of New Zealand payroll, with proven experience processing payroll - ideally in a small business context. You can navigate the legal requirements and apply them to real world scenarios. Ideally you live and breathe New Zealand payroll, and understand the challenges small employers face when trying to get it right.
Beyond your payroll expertise, you’re analytical, detail-oriented, and an excellent communicator who can explain complex topics clearly. You’re a problem-solver who can balance multiple priorities independently while working collaboratively across functions. You’re customer-centric with a genuine understanding of small business challenges, and you're comfortable with ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
Prior exposure to SaaS products, software development processes, or tech companies is desirable, but first and foremost is your understanding of the intricacies of New Zealand payroll. If you’re really interested in payroll but have deeper experience in a related field (FinTech, RegTech, accounting or similar) then we’d still love to hear from you.
Why you’ll love working at PaySauce
Life is good here with the PayForce. We take care of each other as much as we do our customers: we’re built on being empathetic, kind, and people first.
We’re committed to supporting your development and ensuring you feel fulfilled and happy at work. We’re dedicated to ensuring everyone feels valued and has a contribution to make to PaySauce’s (very bright) future.
You’ll get health insurance, birthday leave, extra leave if you’re becoming a parent and an invitation to join our employee share scheme. You can ditch the formal office wear - we’re pretty laid back, and the office is fun, friendly and close to shops and cafes. Most importantly, you’ll have an awesome supportive crew around you in a company that’s really going places.
