Onboarding Specialist
We're looking for a payroll expert who genuinely enjoys helping employers navigate the tricky stuff that comes with payroll.
PaySauce makes payroll simple for small businesses across New Zealand. Our customers run cafes, build houses, milk cows and run retail stores. They’re not payroll experts; they’re experts in their own business. You’ll be there to guide them through everything they need to know and do to get PaySauce set up, so they’re ready to succeed with easier pay days!
About the role
You'll guide new customers through their first weeks with PaySauce, from initial data collection and entry, through to their first successful pay run. You'll be the calm, knowledgeable voice on the phone when they're confused about leave calculations. You can write clear, accurate instructions by email with a reassuring manner. You'll work through spreadsheets to migrate customer data from other payroll systems (or spreadsheets, wage books, or wherever they may have been storing their payroll information!). You'll also help our accounting partners learn to onboard their own clients, multiplying the impact of your expertise.
This isn't a script-reading role. You'll need to think on your feet, explain complex payroll concepts in plain language, and genuinely care about getting people's pay day sorted.
What you'll do
- Manage customer onboarding from start to finish, including migration projects for partners (moving customer portfolios from their existing payroll solution to PaySauce)
- Support new customers through account setup, data migration, training and first pay runs
- Troubleshoot complex payroll scenarios, particularly around leave entitlements and calculations
- Deliver training to bureau partners so they can onboard their own clients
- Write help content that actually helps non-payroll experts understand payroll activities
- Work closely with our Support and Success teams to ensure smooth handoffs
- Support sales conversations where onboarding expertise is needed
What you'll bring
- Deep payroll knowledge, including NZ employment legislation, leave entitlements, accruals, and calculations
- Experience working directly with customers - you're patient, clear, and good at building confidence
- Spreadsheet wrangling skills
- Good problem-solving and prioritisation instincts, and the ability to manage your tasks effectively and efficiently
- A fresh perspective and willingness to challenge the status quo - we're a team that's always looking to improve how we do things, and we want someone who'll spot opportunities and help us build better processes for our customers
Experience with other payroll systems is a bonus - it'll help you understand where customers are coming from.
Why you’ll love working at PaySauce
Life is good here with the PayForce. We take care of each other as much as we do our customers: we’re built on being empathetic, kind, and people-first.
We’re committed to supporting your development and ensuring you feel fulfilled and happy at work. We’re dedicated to ensuring everyone feels valued and has a contribution to make to PaySauce’s (very bright) future.
You’ll get health insurance, birthday leave, extra leave if you’re becoming a parent and an invitation to join our employee share scheme. You can ditch the formal office wear - we’re pretty laid back, and the office is fun, friendly and close to shops and cafes. Most importantly, you’ll have an awesome, supportive crew around you in a company that’s really going places.
