The Restaurant Industry Award is now available in PaySauce Australia

Running a restaurant is hard work, and we know payroll can take up valuable time you'd rather spend on your business.

With different pay rates, penalty rates and allowances to account for, calculating everyone's wages correctly can take a fair bit of work.

That's why we've added support for the Restaurant Industry Award in PaySauce Australia. PaySauce automatically calculates employee pay based on the relevant award rules, taking some of the work off your plate.

Who does the Restaurant Industry Award cover?

The Restaurant Industry Award (MA000119) covers many Australian businesses that primarily prepare and serve food and drinks for customers to enjoy on the premises.

Depending on how the business operates, this can include restaurants, dine-in cafés, reception centres, catering businesses, tea rooms and certain roadhouses and nightclubs.

The award covers a range of roles commonly found in restaurants, including waitstaff, baristas, kitchen hands, cooks, chefs and some administrative employees. However, the Restaurant Award doesn't apply to every business that serves food. Takeaway-focused businesses may fall under the Fast Food Industry Award, while restaurants operating within hotels or registered clubs may be covered by another award.

If you're unsure which award applies to your business, you can check the Fair Work Restaurant Industry Award guide.

What makes restaurant payroll complicated?

Restaurant employees rarely work the same hours every week. You might have casual staff covering a busy Saturday night, chefs working longer shifts or employees picking up extra hours when someone calls in sick.

Under the Restaurant Industry Award, employers need to consider different employee classifications, minimum pay rates, casual loadings, overtime, penalty rates and allowances. The applicable rates can change depending on when an employee works, their employment type and the duties they perform.

Keeping track of all these details can be difficult when you're managing a changing roster, particularly if you're calculating wages manually.

PaySauce now supports the Restaurant Industry Award

We've added the Restaurant Industry Award to PaySauce's award interpretation support, allowing the software to automatically calculate employee pay based on the relevant award rules.

PaySauce handles applicable pay rates, penalty rates, overtime and allowances, reducing the manual calculations involved in each pay run.

You can also manage employee timesheets, leave, PAYG, super and payslips in PaySauce, keeping the information you need for payroll together in one place.

When it's time to pay your team, you can make payments directly through PaySauce in one click, without having to log into internet banking.
